George Cabral

Obituary published April 11, 2006

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday April 12, for George Silveira Cabral, who passed away on April 8, 2006 in Santa Cruz. Born in Crows Landing, California, he was 90 years old. A resident of Santa Cruz for the past 65 years, Mr. Cabral was a graduate and class valedictorian of Newman High School. He served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Brazil. Mr. Cabral traveled around the world and was accomplished in banking which was his profession for many years. He visited the Azores Islands researching his family genealogy, and visited relatives there. An avid golfer, he played regularly up into his 80s. He attended St. Joseph's Church, where he sang in the church choir, and Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. George was a familiar face at the Santa Cruz Elks Club socials and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Cruz Council No. 971, where he served as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator.

George is survived by his wife Elsie P. Cabral of Santa Cruz as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two older brothers, Johnny Cabral from Gustine and Anthony Cabral from Pacific Grove.

Friends may pay their respects at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel today Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church 515 Frederick Street in Santa Cruz on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. The family asks that remembrances be made to a charity of your choice.
