Gerald "Jerry" Zieber

Jerry Zieber, a native of Santa Cruz, earned his 1st Degree on January 1, 1952, followed by his 2nd Degree on February 2 and 3rd Degree on March 3, alll in 1952. Jerry served as Grand Knight of the council in 1956-1957. Jerry was an active member of our council for decades and provided financial and insurance advice to the council when appropriate. Jerry was a strong advocate of our council giving blood, leading the way by donating over 27 gallons of blood as a member of the Knights. Jerry and his wife Marjorie regularly attended our monthly socials until his health precluded him from doing so.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday for Gerald Zieber who passed away peacefully in Covenant Village of Turlock following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. He would have celebrated his 85th birthday next month. Born in Santa Cruz, Jerry attended Laurel School, and graduated from Holy Cross High School. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and upon his discharge from the Navy, returned to Santa Cruz.
Jerry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus; joining in 1952. He served as Grand Knight (1957 – 1958) at Santa Cruz Council 971. Jerry was proud of being voted Santa Cruz Old Timer of the Year in 1998, and he leaves many dear friends, colleagues and business clients who remember him as a caring and devoted man; supporting the beliefs and needs of those who have no voice.
He was a dedicated volunteer to the American Red Cross, where throughout his life he donated over 27 gallons of blood. Jerry was a well-known life insurance and annuity agent here for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Amelia Zieber, his brother, Lloyd "Bud" Zieber, his sister Elizabeth Mijares (Zieber) and son Greg Zieber.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marjorie Zieber, his sister, Patricia Hope, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Carolyne Zieber; son Jon Zieber and his partner Karen; son and daughter-in-law Vince and Sue Zieber; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Richard Yeager; and his daughter-in-law, Lorene. He also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Aaron, Savannah, Leesha, Nicole, and Samantha, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and loving extended family.
Friends may pay their respects at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Thursday, February 18th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church (515 Frederick Street) in Santa Cruz. The committal ceremony will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Santa Cruz, followed by a reception in the church hall, where we will continue to celebrate his life.
