Harold "Hal" Veith

(July 9, 1918 - December 11, 2005)

Hal Veith, a longtime resident of Santa Cruz, passed away after a short illness. He is survived by his six children: Margaret Reichmuth Robert, James Veith Barbara, Richard Veith Bonnie, Stephen Veith Kaye, Gregory Veith, and Gerianne Veith; two sisters Rita Menke and Sr. Mary Hilary Veith of Iowa; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Hal was born and raised in Keokuk, Iowa. He enlisted in the Navy just prior to Pearl Harbor and served the entirety of W.W.II on board the USS Pennsylvania. As soon as he was discharged in Bremerton WA, he hitchhiked down to San Francisco and married Louise, whom he had met at a dance during his time stationed there. They lived in various places before settling in Petaluma for 18 years, then finally moved to Santa Cruz in 1970.

He worked for PG&E for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by wives Louise Valente and Betty Bowers Carston; his brothers Leo, James, and John; and his parents Hiller and Mary.

Rosary to be held Friday, Dec. 16 at 6:00 PM at Santa Cruz Memorial - Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz A Mass of Christian Burial to be held Saturday, 1:00pm, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Davenport CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that if you wish, you may make a donation to your favorite charity in memory of Hal.

Arrangements are by Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
